Strong environmental and biodiversity protection

Environmental and biodiversity protection is crucial for sustaining the planet’s natural resources and maintaining ecological balance. At Orrön Energy, we are working actively to safeguard the environment and biodiversity in our business activities and are committed to mitigate, restore and achieve a positive impact through projects and site-specific actions.

Safeguarding the environment and biodiversity in our operations

Safeguarding the environment and biodiversity forms an integral part of our operational business. All of our wind farms have undergone environmental assessments and screenings, with site-specific measures implemented to minimise impact on surrounding ecosystems. Particular focus is given to protect endangered species and airborne animals such as birds and bats, with targeted projects in place for facilities close to migratory flyways and breeding territories.

Biodiversity enhancement projects

We are developing projects to further enhance biodiversity in areas around our wind farms. This includes planting of wildflowers to encourage the growth and establishment of bee populations, habitat for birds and grazing projects in collaboration with local farming communities.

10% biodiversity net gain for UK greenfield projects

In the UK, we are developing greenfield projects that target a minimum of 10% net biodiversity gain by incorporating ecological enhancements into our projects. These include, but are not limited to; hedgerow planting and infill, orchard planting, enhancing or creating ponds and planting of wildflowers. We are are also targeting areas suitable to enhance habitat connectivity during our screening phase of land for developments, and actively avoid biodiversity sensitive areas.
